Dr. Thomas Timberg

Dr. Timberg, has more than 40 years of experience studying issues connected with economic and social development. He has been particularly associated with work on financial sector and SME development and small and microfinance. From 1999 to 2003 he served as Small Credit Adviser to the central bank of Indonesia helping it develop a post crisis, market friendly approach to small and microfinance.

From 1997 to 1999, he headed the Center for Economic Policy Reform in Armenia concerned with a broad range of policy including the development of microfinance approaches and working with NGOs. From 1985 to 1990, he lead the ARIES (Assistance to Resource Institutions for Enterprise Support) Project, USAID’s worldwide support project for small and micro enterprise and finance development which worked in 35 different countries. He has lectured and published widely on questions connected with economic and financial development and small and microfinance and enterprise development.
